Looking Ahead to a Bright Future

Solar energy is shining bright in our future. Now that we have welcomed 2021, we look forward to all the possibilities to educate and spread awareness about the importance of clean energy in the new year.

In 2020, we brought our solar trees and canopies to you virtually and invited you to take a Solar Staycation to explore our solar array projects from the comfort of your own home. This year, we will continue to offer even more resources focused on cultivating knowledge about solar energy and its benefits to the environment.

New Year, New Locations

By visiting one of FPL SolarNow’s 60+ locations at parks, museums and zoos across the state, you can witness the marvels of solar energy up close. We recently opened four new locations in South Florida, each offering a way to learn more about how our solar arrays harness power from the sun while generating clean energy for the local community.

Reverend Samuel Delevoe Memorial Park: This park honors one of the city’s first Black police officers, who served as a community activist, politician and civil rights leader. Here at his namesake park in Broward County, a large solar canopy provides shade over the fitness area.

Moore Park: This park in Miami has a variety of facilities, including a recreation center and playground area. It now also offers two solar canopies, which cover benches to shade basketball game spectators from the sun.

Morgan Levy Park: You’ll find two solar trees that join other wonderful amenities at this park. Sports fans can see soccer and solar in one convenient location – right in the heart of Doral. Take a break from a basketball game and catch some shade under the two solar trees.

Melrose Park: A solar canopy is the cornerstone of a new playground at this recently revitalized park, offering covered seating for parents watching children play. With almost two acres of a green oasis in this urban Allapattah community, the park is a local institution and thriving hangout.

That’s not all! We are continuing to bring solar arrays to local communities and currently have projects in the works at Regatta Park and Baptist Hospital in Miami, Collier County Sports Complex on Florida’s West Coast and Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach.

Solar Trees Get a Makeover

At our locations across the state, we have installed special features, such as customized wraps and lights, to make our solar trees even more unique for visitors. Want to check it out? Visit one of the below locations to see these innovative structures all dressed up.

• Wraps: IMAG History & Science Center, Zoo Miami, Palm Beach Gardens Aquatic Complex, C.B. Smith Paradise Cove, Morgan Levy Park and Manatee Lagoon, an FPL Eco-Discovery Center
• Lights: ArtsPark at Young Circle, Fort Myers Centennial Park, Exploration Tower at Port Canaveral, Riverfront Veterans Memorial Park, Paradise Coast Sports Complex and Palm Beach International Airport

There’s a New Solar Tree in Town

Have you heard about our “talking” solar tree? In South Florida, you can meet Sunny at select locations through augmented reality and 3D imagery to learn about how the rays from the sun can be turned into solar energy.

• Museum of Discovery and Science
• and Zoo Miami

…with more locations coming in 2021, including Manatee Lagoon, an FPL Eco-Discovery Center!

The FPL SolarNow program is on a mission to encourage future generations to learn more about solar. By transforming zoos, parks, museums and other local attractions into living classrooms and offering hands-on experiments that show solar energy in action, we are committed to teaching communities about renewable energy.
