A solar ring and retractable roof will soon hang above a premier Miami concert venue

Miami Herald – The amphitheater at Bayfront Park, one of Miami’s signature performing arts venues downtown, will soon get a halo-like ring of solar panels and a retractable roof. On Thursday the Miami City Commission gave approval for a no-bid contract to Florida Power & Light for the project, which is expected to be finished in time for Super Bowl festivities in early 2020.

Miami partners with FPL to deliver ‘solar trees’ at parks

Three parks across Miami will soon be outfitted with solar arrays in an effort to become more environmental-friendly. Along with being good for the environment, the trees have some cool perks like shaded seating areas and charging stations for electronic devices.

FPL SolarNow is a voluntary program that allows customers to support solar and want to see it in their local communities. Sun Sentinel -  Florida Power & Light Company is putting up creatively designed solar panels to increase its harnessing of energy from the sun, and homeowners who are solar enthusiasts are helping foot the bill. There are about 8,000 families in Miami-Dade, 7,000 in Broward and 5,000 in Palm Beach County who are voluntarily paying an extra $9 a month to support the effort.

DAYTONA BEACH NEWS-JOURNAL – A trio of “solar trees” is being installed in Central Park at Town Center, and solar canopies are planned over some parking areas at the Palm Coast Community Center and Holland Park, a city spokesperson said Thursday. The city was chosen as a site for the solar trees and canopies as part of FPL’s SolarNow program, at no cost to the city. SolarNow is a voluntary program for FPL customers who support solar power in their communities and elect to contribute $9 on their monthly bills toward the program.

NBC2 –A huge new structure at the Naples Zoo does more than shade the zoo parking lot — it could bring your monthly energy bill down. FPL is adding 666 solar panels to the zoo’s parking lot. That's enough solar energy to power an elementary school for an entire year. “I think they're a great idea. I purposefully parked under them for shade because in Florida, it's sunny and hot,” said Naples Zoo visitor Lyndi Benton.
