Who doesn’t love sea turtles? At Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC), you can witness the marvels of these beautiful sea creatures and see solar energy up close. While LMC supports the preservation of the marine environment, FPL SolarNow supports the development of solar energy. During your visit, you can check out a new solar tree at the entrance, featuring a unique sea turtle design.

By leveraging the power of the sun, these innovative solar arrays located at 70+ local parks, zoos and museums across Florida, generate emissions-free energy that reduces greenhouse gas emissions. With climate change being a key issue for our planet, finding ways to slow or stop global warming is crucial to preserving endangered species like sea turtles.

What is Loggerhead Marinelife Center?

As one of the most visited nonprofit scientific destinations focused on ocean and sea turtle conservation, LMC is essential to the rehabilitation of these marine reptiles. Each year, the LMC hospital team and volunteers treat nearly 100 sea turtles and 1,000 hatchlings at the ocean-side facility.

Situated on one of the world’s most important and densely nested sea turtle beaches, the research team monitors a 9.5 mile stretch of beach from March to October. In 2021, there have been over 15,000 sea turtle nests throughout Juno, Jupiter and Tequesta!

Once you check out the solar tree at the entrance, make your way inside to the educational exhibits and aquariums. You can “adopt” a sea turtle to help provide the food, medication, hospital care and tank maintenance critical to their health, stop by the hospital to visit the beloved sea turtle patients, or even book a guided tour.

Working Together to Protect our Wildlife

LMC plays a significant role in educating the next generation about the importance of conservation and caring for the planet’s special creatures. For three decades, FPL’s long-standing partnership with LMC has allowed the center to treat more injured sea turtles and engage with more visitors and students.

That’s why FPL is committed to increasing awareness about the power of solar energy while partnering with several other institutions across the state, including Zoo Miami, Naples Zoo, Brevard Zoo and Palm Beach Zoo, dedicated to environmental and wildlife conservation.

Together, by spreading knowledge about clean energy and animal conservation, it will ensure that all humans and creatures on Earth have a safe place to call home for generations to come.
