Free Holiday Activities from FPL SolarNow

The holiday season is the best time for do-it-yourself decorating and fun times with the family! In Florida, the sun shines bright all year long, and it’s the most wonderful time of the year to celebrate clean solar energy with arts and crafts.

Check out the below holiday-themed activities and DIY projects for a day filled with coloring and decorating.

• Holiday Coloring Page: With FPL SolarNow’s downloadable coloring page, the entire family can get into the holiday spirit. The page is inspired by a tropical Florida December, including a festive snowman with sunglasses, a solar tree and palm tree stringed with sparkling lights. Once your child is done with their work of art, snap a photo and post it on Facebook or Twitter to show off their masterpiece with the hashtag #FPLSolarNow. The artwork will then have a chance to be featured on FPL’s social media channels and an upcoming blog post on the SolarNow website.

• Hanging Sun Decorations: Instead of snowflakes hanging from your ceiling or tree, create your own unique sun decorations – this is the Sunshine State after all. Simply take a paper plate or construction paper to make the center of the sun and cut strips of paper or use popsicle sticks to make the rays. Then, tie a string to the top and hang them all around your house for the perfect Florida winter wonderland.

• Solar North Pole Snow Globe: Snow globes capture the magic of winter – and even though it doesn’t typically snow here in Florida, we can still have a little piece of the winter season. This unique DIY project by Smart School House uses solar candles that charge in the sunlight and glow at night to create a charming snow globe that captures the essence of the North Pole.

By educating the next generation about the power of the sun, FPL SolarNow is committed to bringing to light the many ways solar energy is beneficial to the environment and the community. These activities are just a few ways to learn about and appreciate the world’s most important source of energy while celebrating its role in creating clean energy that benefits us all.

Over the years, Zoo Lights has become a Florida holiday tradition for family and friends. To ensure a safe and merry holiday for all, our partners are hosting the below events with COVID-19 protocols in place.

• Zoo Lights at Zoo Miami: Zoo Miami will open at night for a special holiday event with one million bright, animal shaped lights and dazzling tree lights. Experience Zoo Lights on select nights through Dec. 27. Enjoy Snowman’s River Boat Rides, arts & crafts, holiday music, appearances by Santa and much more!
• Zoo Lights at Palm Beach Zoo: Palm Beach Zoo’s must-see illuminating event lights up this holiday season on select nights through Jan. 9 from 6 – 9 p.m. While the animals slumber, the Zoo will dazzle with more than one million eco-friendly LED lights, creating a festive glow along its tropical pathways. Enjoy smores by the fire and other seasonal treats, a fun photo opp with Santa through Dec. 23, and get ready to dance into the holidays with top family-friendly pop and holiday hits in the Fountain Plaza.

For the safety of all visitors, Zoo Miami and Palm Beach Zoo are abiding by CDC guidelines amid the COVID-19 pandemic by limiting capacity and requiring guests to wear face coverings and maintain proper social distancing. Visitors must register for tickets in advance and choose a date to attend.
