Trees are vital to our environment – and we’re not just talking about our innovative solar trees that generate clean energy for the community!

Did you know that by planting trees in the right place, you save on your energy bill and clean the air and water in your community? That’s why FPL SolarNow partners with the Arbor Day Foundation’s Energy-Saving Trees program to give away free trees as part of a commitment to a greener, healthier world.

Energy-Saving Trees is an online mapping tool that takes the guesswork out of tree planting. By entering simple information about your home and yard, the tool calculates where to specifically and strategically plant trees for the greatest energy- and money-saving benefits.

But trees do much more than provide energy savings. They also provide tangible benefits for the entire community: improved air quality, reduced stormwater runoff, beautification of your neighborhood, reduced urban heat island effect, and a smaller carbon footprint, just to name a few.

Trees that Generate Solar Energy

At the same time, it is equally important to ensure that we preserve our planet by looking for ways to reduce pollution and generate emissions-free energy. While trees are essential to giving us oxygen and storing carbon, FPL SolarNow’s solar trees are capable of producing up to 3 kilowatts of solar energy – enough to power an electric vehicle 15,000 miles per year.

Why is this important? Solar energy is not only sustainable, it’s renewable, and this means that we will never run out of it. Solar power helps to slow/stop global warming and actively contributes to the decrease of harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

If you’ve never seen a solar tree, make sure to visit one of our 70+ partner locations across the state to learn about the importance of clean energy. These unique structures provide shade and harness the power of the sun while generating emissions-free energy. Across Florida, zoos, museums and parks have been transformed into living classrooms where you can see solar energy in action.

From planting trees to solar trees, FPL is dedicated to protecting the environment for future generations to come!
