School’s Out For Summer Solar
Summer is the time for fun in the sun and there’s no better season to harness the clean power of solar energy. It may be hot in Florida, but that makes it a perfect time to hit a local beach, breezy park or splash pad.
These outings are even better thanks to the FPL SolarNow program, with solar trees and canopies across Florida providing some relief from the summer sun while harnessing its power into energy for the grid.
We also recently celebrated our 100th solar tree taking root across Florida! With 57 total solar arrays now open, you can find one at a park or beach near you that provides shade, phone charging capabilities and education on the importance of solar energy.

What would summer in Florida be without some fun in the water? The City of Palm Beach Gardens Aquatic Complex is the perfect place for families to cool down with its pools, water slides and playground equipment. Parents sitting next to the pool while their kids play can charge their mobile devices with clean energy from the two solar trees.
ArtsPark at Young Circle in Hollywood is home to a variety of events for families, from food truck gatherings to concerts to movie nights. Take your kids to check out the butterfly sculpture and grab some shade underneath the two solar trees installed in the park while you’re at it!

West Florida
SolarNow continues to take root in the Gulf Coast of the state, with solar arrays from Naples to Sarasota. Even though school’s out, there’s plenty of places to learn more about science, including the IMAG History & Science Center. Experience more than 60 hands-on exhibits for the whole family including animal encounters, a living lab and an aquarium. SolarNow not only constructed a solar canopy on the center’s outside grounds, but also two solar trees so families can learn about clean energy as part of their visit.
In Naples, you can take a family trip to North Collier Regional Park. Beat the heat at its adventure-filled outdoor waterpark and Sun-N-Fun lagoon; or maybe take in a baseball game at the athletic fields. Either way, you can enjoy the shade of the recently installed solar canopy.
North Florida
SolarNow trees and canopies are branching out into North Florida as well, with locations in summer hot spots for the whole family. James Holland Park features 26 acres of recreational space with boundless possibilities, including baseball fields, a walking trail, dog park, climbing wall, zip line and archeological digging area. Step under the shade of the solar canopy to cool off—and park your car in select spots under the canopy to minimize sun damage to your vehicle.
Central Park sits at the heart of Palm Coast’s downtown area with a half mile walking path next to a picturesque lake. Thanks to SolarNow, there’s now a solar tree providing shade and phone charging capabilities for fitness-focused families taking a summer jog or folks taking a walk to enjoy the views.
