Earth Day serves as a poignant reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and preserve the planet. For over 50 years, it has been a day to generate awareness of the environmental issues facing our home. At FPL SolarNow, we remain committed to educating the public about the role clean energy, like solar, plays in helping make the Sunshine State even better and brighter. Our goal is to inspire others to also adopt this mission while we continually work to generate clean energy for the community.

This year, celebrate with us by visiting one of our many partner locations, joining in local Earth Day events and singing up to become a Solar Insider to learn more about our solar developments across the state that help FPL deliver reliable electricity while keeping bills as low as possible for customers.

Get the Inside Scoop

Did you know that FPL has avoided over 200 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions since 2001? That’s the same as removing more than 40 million gas-powered vehicles from the roads each year or removing every gas-powered car and pickup from Florida’s roads for more than two years. This is partly due to the solar energy centers FPL now has across Florida. These solar energy centers help diversify our energy sources and make our system more efficient, more resilient and more stable amidst volatile fuel prices. These centers also do not require any fuel to operate, which results in savings we pass directly to customers. In fact, we’ve saved customers nearly $900 million in fuel costs while preserving Florida’s environment.

Now, you can learn about these developments firsthand by signing up to be an FPL Solar Insider. You’ll receive regular updates on solar projects, new technologies and the work we are doing to deliver reliable energy while keeping bills as low as possible. With this program, you’ll also receive invitations to attend solar-related events and opportunities in your area, such as exclusive tours of FPL solar energy centers, so you can learn more about these developments and the benefits they deliver to local communities and customers across the state.

See Solar Energy Up Close

To see solar energy in action, all you have to do is visit some of your local attractions. As part of the FPL SolarNow program, solar trees and canopies have been installed at 70+ locations across the state for people of all ages to learn about the power of the sun. These innovative structures not only provide shade but also feed clean energy back into the community. Whether you want to visit a park, zoo or museum, you can see solar arrays in popular hot spots throughout your neighborhood.

While you’re learning about solar energy, our partner locations have plenty of other fun things to do to continue the Earth Day celebrations. In Central Florida, Brevard Zoo will hold an event on April 20 that features the opportunity to meet with local conservation partners and discover how we can unite to save wildlife. While in Miami, FPL SolarNow is sponsoring the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum’s Earth Day Celebration on April 21 where you can engage in hands-on activities and enjoy science demonstrations. The Palm Beach Zoo is also having its own Earth Day event April 27 that offers educational and fun activities for the entire family.

Together, We Can Make a Difference

FPL has proudly served Florida for nearly a century. We understand the value of providing customers with reliable, low-cost solar energy that benefits the wider community. Whether in the form of tax benefits to local counties, jobs created in the construction of new solar sites or protection against urban sprawl, investments in efficient solar technologies are a win for customers now and in the future. These benefits also extend even further by helping to preserve our environment and our state’s precious natural resources.

Whether visiting one of our partner locations or by learning about the many FPL solar energy centers throughout the Sunshine State by becoming a Solar Insider, we hope you’ll join as we celebrate the planet this April.
