As the school season approaches, teachers and parents are looking for creative and fun ways to educate children about the importance of solar energy. At FPL SolarNow, we are committed to investing in the education and development of our future leaders by ensuring they have the tools and knowledge to drive innovation.

This school year, elevate your classroom experience with visits to our SolarNow partner locations or explore our solar experiments, and get students excited about protecting our planet. Whether at home, inside the classroom, or out in nature, check out the ideas below to make learning an exciting journey of discovery!

Adventure Awaits

Educational field trips are a highly interactive and fun way to generate excitement among students. Our more than 100+ SolarNow installations are located at 70+ parks, museums, and zoos across the Sunshine State – the perfect spots for field trips. Here, our solar trees and canopies not only provide shade, they also harness the sun’s power to generate emissions-free energy. Students can enjoy a day out of the classroom and an unforgettable learning experience by exploring these innovative structures and witnessing solar energy in action.

In Palm Beach County, the Cox Science Center & Aquarium is a must visit for students of all ages. This location features the FPL SolarScape along the Fisher Family Science Trail, where they can interact with “Sunny,” an animated 3D solar tree that teaches kids how solar energy works through augmented reality.

Over in Brevard County, students can take a trip to the Kennedy Space Center and the Brevard Zoo, where the solar trees are an added educational bonus to the wonders offered at these locations.

In Lee County, the IMAG History and Science Center brings field trips to life with its solar canopy, which offers green energy and doubles as an outdoor classroom and interactive exhibit.

Become a Solar Scientist

Another way to engage students in solar energy education is through hands-on activities, such as trying out one of the many experiments offered on our website. Using these quick activities, kids can witness the power of solar energy right from their classroom, or even at home! Check out our Solar Lantern experiment that uses common household items to harness the power of the sun.

In another simple experiment, students can discover what type of matter absorbs the most heat using just a few household items, their critical thinking skills, and a dose of curiosity.

With a combination of lessons on solar energy and engaging activities, students can take their knowledge of clean energy and apply it to real-world examples. These experiments can be incorporated into various subjects, teaching kids many important skills at once, and instilling in them a passion for science.

Bright Futures Ahead

The future of energy is rooted in renewable solutions like solar. At FPL SolarNow, we are dedicated to educating people on the importance of reliable energy and its positive impact on the planet. By inspiring students and providing them with hands-on educational experiences, we aim to create awareness and excitement around solar energy.

Whether visiting our SolarNow locations, participating in a solar energy experiment, or signing up for our Solar Insider Program, each step helps us make Florida an even better place to live, work and raise a family.
