SolarNow Partners with Port Canaveral to Bring More Solar Trees to the Space Coast

The newest FPL SolarNow™ installation has made its way to the Space Coast with five new solar trees at Port Canaveral. Now, visitors from all over the country can learn about the latest in solar technology at Port Canaveral’s best attractions, the Exploration Tower and Jetty Park.

Located in Brevard County near Cocoa Beach, Port Canaveral is one of the world’s most dynamic and exciting cruise, cargo and naval ports, providing a gateway to Central Florida and beyond. Equipped with eclectic retail and restaurants, outdoor recreation, interactive exhibits and more, it is the second largest cruise port in the country—and we’re excited to bring solar energy and education to this already-engaging experience.

With the support of dedicated program participants, the FPL SolarNow program is helping to bring even more clean solar energy to local communities throughout Florida. Already, FPL has developed more than a dozen SolarNow projects including several right here on the Space Coast at the Brevard Zoo and Palm Bay City Hall, in addition to the Port Canaveral project.

About the Port Canaveral Installation

Solar trees are artistic, clean energy structures that not only catch the sun to deliver clean emissions-free energy but also provide shade.

A combination of art, convenience, green energy and community, the solar trees seamlessly integrate into the landscape to create a unique space where you, your family and friends can interact and learn more about solar energy. Together, we are not only bringing more solar energy to our communities, we are transforming our future.

The Port Canaveral solar trees are located on the front lawn of the port’s Exploration Tower, a unique building with seven floors of interactive exhibits and observation decks, as well as Jetty Park, an outdoor public park on site. We’ve chosen these special locations because they’re some of the best areas for visitors to experience everything the port has to offer, but also so cruise goers can witness these solar contributions as they enter and exit the port right from their ship.

Jetty Park at Port Canaveral has two new solar trees to provide shade while soaking up the sun’s rays.

Did you know? Our commitment to solar extends far beyond solar trees in the region with our solar array at Kennedy Space Center, NASA’s launch complex that neighbors Port Canaveral. The 35,000-solar-panel facility, occupying 60 acres at the Space Center, is a result of a public-private partnership between FPL and NASA and produces 10 megawatts of clean, emissions-free power, which is enough energy to serve about 2,000 homes.

Now that the trees are planted, visitors are invited to see them and experience all there is to see at Port Canaveral’s Exploration Tower and Jetty Park. We share the Port’s commitment to inspire visitors with science and technology, and these new solar trees are the perfect addition to the interactive exhibits and outdoor recreation already found on site.
